Chris Boettcher

| |
| Chris started hunting ducks at age 8, and recalls his very first experience… ”I
experienced a life changing event. It was the faint whistling and chatter I
heard when a flock of mallards flew overhead as my uncle and I were hunting in
Northwest Missouri on a public lake”. “I remember him calling at them and
hearing a hen answer him back, then all of a sudden she locked up and sailed
into our decoy’s I watched in amazement as the rest of the flock followed her
down into our spread”. “From that moment on, I knew that I wanted to learn to
call ducks, since then I haven’t looked back or been the same!” |
| |
| In the spring of 2006 Chris was introduced to competition duck calling by a
friend and fellow duck hunter who had competed a few times already. Together
they started going to calling practices each week at a new found friend’s shop
who is a very experienced competition caller and custom call maker. This really
got Chris fired up to go out and compete. So during the Summer/Early Fall of
2006 he competed in 11 (Main Street) style contests all across the Midwest and
managed to win a novice contest in Rochester, MN and accomplished a 3rd place
finish at the Bayou de Chien regional in Sturgis, KY. Not to bad for his first
year in competing!

| Chris says, “Duck hunting for me has went way beyond an obsession and became a
way of life, it is something that I will always be a part of whether It would
be going hunting with good friends or taking a trip to Saskatchewan in the
early fall”. “My genuine love for this sport has created so many memories and
good friends and to me those are things you can’t replace”. “The girlfriends,
and jobs I have lost or even the gas a good friend and I siphoned out of his
dad’s bass boat one season just so we would have enough gas to go hunting in
the morning, those all can be replaced.” |
| |
| Besides all of the duck calling and duck hunting, his second love is turkey
hunting. Every year as duck season is winding down Chris always start to
anticipate those big ol’ Missouri gobblers tearing up the hillsides where he
grew up hunting on his family farm in Owensville, MO.
